Hilton Head's first golf course is now one of the newest. Mark McCumber has personally redesigned the course. He has built interest, challenge and strategy into the course while preserving the natural beauty of Sea Pines. This course is a "Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary," only the 4th in South Carolina & 187th in the world to achieve this designation. The varying sets of tees and the placement of hazards ensure that the course is challenging but playable for golfers of every skill level.
The terrain is fairly level with perimeter mounding and slightly raised green complexes that are usually well protected by sand traps. Most fairways are tree-lined, with holes featuring ample room mixed in with those that have tight landing areas. There are quite a few holes that favor hitters with a left to right ball flight off the tee. 4 sets of tee boxes play to distances and slopes measuring 6906 yards/142 slope, 6493 yards/135 slope, 6172 yards/123 slope for men and 134 for women, and 5325 yards with a slope of 115 for men and 124 for ladies hitting from the forward sets.
